Some fields, woods and corners of a holding sit quiet for much of the year. Where a sporting or clay activity is suitable, they may offer a welcome opportunity to share the countryside and receive payment for agreed use. We’ll talk through what could work for your land and what matters to you before you decide.

Good neighbours can make a bigger day.
A single farm or parcel may be too small for a shoot on its own. A land co-operative can bring neighbouring holdings together, with a gamekeeper planning the route and preparing the day around each farm.
Friends and guests come together to support the farms and countryside around them. Agreed use and gamekeeping work can provide another source of income for participating farmers, while each landowner decides whether to join and what land to include. You stay in control of your holding, and any use and payment are discussed and agreed with you beforehand.

For game shooting, good preparation can include habitat care and the introduction of young gamebirds. Where it is appropriate for the holding, release pens are commonly placed in or beside suitable woodland and copses, giving the birds cover as they settle.
